It’s hard to believe we’re already talking about the end of summer.
One minute, we’re packing coolers, heading to the lake, squeezing in beach days and trying to make the most of those long summer evenings. And then, almost overnight, the calendar says back to school.
Here in Maine, the change of seasons always seems to sneak up on us.The mornings are getting a little cooler. The days are getting a little shorter. You start seeing school buses on the road, kids carrying backpacks into stores, and parents realizing they have about three weeks to get everyone organized before the schedules take over again.
And as much as I hate to see summer winding down, there’s something I really like about this time of year. There’s something about September that feels like a reset. New teachers. New classes. New sports. New routines. Maybe a new job, a new house, or simply a chance to get a little more organized after the relaxed pace of summer.
It’s also a good time to take a step back and look at the things we tend to put off during the summer.
- How are we doing financially?
- Are our insurance policies still keeping up with our lives?
- Did we buy a new car this summer?
- Did we add a camper, boat, or ATV?
- Did we make improvements to the house?
- Did the kids start driving?
Life changes quickly, and sometimes our insurance doesn’t keep up with those changes.
Back to school is a good reminder for families with teenagers…
The return to school is also a good time to think about auto insurance. If your son or daughter is getting their license, adding a vehicle, or heading off to college, give us a call. There are a lot of factors that can affect how they’re insured, and we’d much rather help you think through those decisions before there’s a problem.
The same goes for the rest of your insurance. Maybe you bought a new home. Maybe you’ve spent the summer working on the one you have. Maybe you’ve finally purchased that boat you’ve been talking about for years. Those are good things! Just make sure your insurance knows about them.
Before we get too busy…
The funny thing about September is that life gets busy fast. School schedules. Sports. Work. Meetings. Homework. Fall activities. And before you know it, we’re talking about Thanksgiving. So before the calendar completely takes over, take an hour and check in on a few things:
- Review your home and auto coverage. Make sure your vehicles and drivers are listed correctly. Think about any major purchases or updates to your home you’ve made this year. Check your deductibles and coverage limits. Make sure your valuables and recreational toys are properly insured. Take a look at your life insurance and make sure it still reflects your family’s needs.
Enjoy these last few weeks of summer, but most importantly, don’t rush to the end. There are still plenty of warm days ahead. Take the boat out. Have dinner on the deck. Go for a hike. Take the kids fishing. Squeeze in one more trip to the beach. Summer may be winding down, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy it.
And when you’re ready to get back into the fall routine, we’re here to help make sure your insurance is ready for whatever comes next. From our family to yours, have a great end to summer and a safe, successful school year!
